*** Masks are re-usable, but must be sanitized before/after each use! ***
    * Use tightly woven cotton fabric, or hospital grade material.
    * Keep in mind men and women will be wearing the masks when choosing fabric for mask that will be donated.
    * Contact local health facilities to see if they are in need of donations.

Currently, the supply of surgical masks is at a critical all-time low throughout the entire nation. As a community of sewists, this is a great way we can band together and make a huge difference in this time of need!
In addition to helping medical staff during critical shortages, these masks can be used at home as well. While wearing homemade face masks will not prevent against catching a respiratory illness, they can help reduce the spread of large particles when someone sneezes or coughs.

Thank you for posting this! I am not a "sew-er" by any stretch of the word... don't even have a sewing machine, so I will have to sew these by hand for me and my family. Your instructions make it easier for a guy like me to wrap his head around what need to be done! Thank you once again!!!

    2. Kiki Love

I want to make a whole lot just in case the hospital starts asking

    3. Denis Huneault-Joffre

After seeing a photo of a mask I made using your tutorial I was asked by a Dentist friend if I could make these for front line medical workers to put over their n95 masks. The n95 mask would be reusable and the cloth mask washable in the hospital laundry facility. I looked at an array of videos to see if I could find any tricks or tips and this one was the clearest and quickest to make. Thanks!

    4. Fran McNamara

Your instructions are wrong, the long piece should be top to bottom not side to side, that way it would fit properly and you would be able to get three folds. Otherwise the basic concept is good

    5. Karen Martin

what size fabric would you cut to make these masks for children, ages 3-10? Thank you!

    6. Jeanette Davis

      Thanks!

    7. Alyssa Evenson

What size would you make it for a child’s size mask? Or would it still be the same size?

    8. batty9

Used this pattern to make my masks. Thank you!

    9. Susan Allen

These are not "medial" masks. This woman should be sued for this claim if anyone gets ill. Please watch one of the videos by doctors who are not USsel idiots. They tell you how to make masks properly with openings that you can put filters into, and the types of filters you should use.....a little more "medical".

    10. Bree Gowie

I'm 14 years old and me and my mom are making them ( for t he last two weeks ) and this was the first time I sewed.

    11. Susan Mooring

The elastic won't stay around my ears, it pops right off. I tried tightening and loosening the elastic but with the same result. Any thoughts?

    12. S W

Great tutorial and easy to understand! Thank you!

    13. Cassie Marie

      Thank you!!

    14. Charlotte Whitney

      Amazing job thanks a lot

    15. Angie with AngiesWeb

I wonder if you can leave a pocket to fill with air-filter material, that might would be even more protective. I saw a video of a doc who sewed one hisself with this material

    16. Shannon Angel

What is the purpose of the flannel lining? Is it necessary?

    17. יקירית כהנוביץ

Hi! Don't we need to add a wire to the top of the mask?

    18. Stephen Hammock

I heard the solution from a Lowes employee. Use a Filtrete 1500 MPR Ultra Allergen Air Condition filter and make your mask from the material inside.

    19. rhonda wheeler

These are so simple, thank you so much for sharing. I’m going to try making them.😊

    20. Alex

This is so smart and wholesome. Thank you for the tutorial. Will be sharing it

    21. Johanna Isaac

Do you have a tutorial of one with a filter pocket?

    22. Ratnesh Yadav

      Nice video

    23. Swimbait1

That’s awesome, I don’t even sew and enjoyed watching.

    24. Melinda Hendry

What is the measurement of the material for a teenager and for a child?

      1. Melinda Hendry

Teenager - 12 years old, child 10 years old

    25. Tia Mirocke

Are there different measurements for a kid's size mask?

    26. Mia WHITAKER

it works i maned 20 i love your channel!!!!!!!!!!

    27. Michell Smith

      Thank you!!!

    28. Peachesxo

      Thank you 💕

    29. JRT Fishing

I hand sewed one of these. Took about an hour and came out fantastic. I'm an avid fisherman so I used a fisherman themed fabric. Also, I work at a grocery store so I will be making more! 🎣

    30. Alaina Neal

absolutely love this tutorial. i’ve made about 25 masks using it. i know with the elastic shortage you posted how to do it without it, but i thought i would share my alternative... i used hair ties. when cut they are about 6 inches. so i added an extra inch and made the fabric 6x10 and it seems to work great!

    31. Sherry Philson

Thank you for this easy instructional video!!!

    32. Asna Bibi

Can you wash and reuse this over and over again?

    33. Michelle

My ears to sensitive for the bands on them so I tie em under my hair

    34. pine le

The mask do not much because virus is about 0.1 micron or smaller. this home made mask made of normal fabrics provide people false sense of security. However, if this mask sew with open allow insert filter, that will change everything. Therefore, I give you a thump down because many ignorance will think such mask will protect them then go out with to becoming ill.

    35. Kristen Swaringen

Thanks for the tutorial! I'm a novice, but I thought I'd try to make myself a mask (since the recommendation has changed for people to wear them in public). For folks who have made these masks, I have a question about sizing. I'm an adult woman, but I'm on the small size--I'm 5 feet tall, and as an adult I've frequently worn eyeglasses with children's frames. Do I need to make adjustments to the fabric dimensions or the length of the elastic bands? I'm trying to avoid making a mask that's too large and is ill-fitting for my small face.

    36. Renee Ellestad

      Thank you.

    37. Joan Osborn

Great easy to follow video . Thanks so much. I did have to make my elastics shorter to fit. : )

    38. pjd412

Our governor just issued a strong recommendation that everyone in Pennsylvania wear one. "My mask protests you, your mask protests me."

    39. Lucy Hill

      woah those Clips are Nice!!

    40. Sasi Pita

Can this mask be washed with the hepa filter inside?

    41. L2Lulu

Great tutorial. May I ask why the lining is there? Is it just to have 3 layers of protection instead of 2? I see other masks simply being made with 2 layers of cotton. I will say that I currently have a quick no-sew mask made with a folded bandana which winds up being 4 layers and it's a bit hard to breathe through.

    42. Ray Nrs

Erica, you seem to be the most popular, so have you considered plans for a filter pouch? ex. vacuum cleaner bags cut to size, or even coffee filters

    43. Alex Lopez

      I need one

    44. KIM MATLOCK

I wonder if using embroidery stabalizer (non fusible) would work for center?? Anybody know ?

    45. Daniel Ploszkiewicz

Thank you for posting this. We are going to try to make some tomorrow and your method seems to be the quickest and easiest of the tutorials I’ve watched!

    46. XLTEE47

Followed your instructions and had great results. Thank You!!

    47. jonwhite1996

Thank you for sharing. I am going to see if I can do this!

    48. PlatinumShawT1986

What is the point of pleats?

    49. Suriya Mei

Thanks so much for making this tutorial! i've made 3 already and now my family wants some. Easy to sew and a good way to use up all my fabric scraps!

    50. Doua Cha

    60. Kati Seamans

      thank you!

    61. Anita Ramirez

I'm wanting to make these it looks so easy , However I'm wondering is it ok to have the flannel in the middle ,wouldn't that make it harder to breath?

    62. Sugar Plum

Thank you so much for the demonstration

    63. Debbe Tom Vaughan

I found that a 7x9 works better for people that have larger faces

    64. Ricco Suave

wonderful video, easy to follow too, I wish you had a video for making a scrub cap, there are plenty but not so easy to follow.

    65. Jose De Los Santos

Good effort but not everybody has a sewing machine. thank you !

    66. Angelina Joy

I’m going to be doing this today! You are such a great teacher, Erica!

    67. J Lum

    68. Happy Town

Wondering if bating would work as an alternative to flannel

    69. conishkee

04-03-2020. This is by far the BEST tutorial for making medical masks. I can't wait to get started this afternoon. TFS!

    70. inspectrgajit

Thank you Erica! I'm making a bunch and just dropping in the neighbors mailboxes

    71. Guinea pig Nation

Thank you! My sewing machines needle snapped while I was sewing some guinea pig fleece. So I had to hand sew this! It took a little longer but it works the same if you don’t have a sewing machine. My came out a little odd sense I was my first time but I will be making more, during quarantine!

    72. Julie Stolar

      Awesome tutorial - thank you!

    73. Special K

Guess you'll be keeping that one for yourself since you placed it to your mouth

    74. Angel Roxette

I've seen many vids yours is the best n it's simple practical thanks. I will make mine double sided two in one. Best wishes

    75. Angel Roxette

Some folks like doing double sided different pattern sides so you get reversable sides two masks in one. Some stores ran out of elastic.

    76. Angel Roxette

      It's called a surgical mask

    77. Oreo Benavidez

So it's 2 pieces of cotton and 1 flannel???

    78. Karla Corcoran

I don't have elastic, is there a way to make one with a tie on feature?

    79. Ashley Baca

What size fabric would you use for a toddler?

    80. Jose Ortiz

      Awesome
