You can't imagine how great these mini documentaries are for me. Waaay better that TV shit. Great job man! Keep it up!

    2. Andrew Awesome

Are hospital ships being used for virus patients?

      1. Zack Georgly

Yes. There was a news piece some weeks back about USS Comfort arriving to NY to work as a hospital for Covid-19 patients.

    3. Warren Campbell

When Sam goes from planes to ships to pandemics to risk. He truly has done it all.

    4. Christoffer Fogelström

Does anyone know if they are utilized during the COVID-19 pandemic at all?

      1. Zack Georgly

Yes, USS Comfort is deployed in NYC currently.

    5. Leo Sussman

The comfort recently came to New York to take non Coronavirus patents from full hospitals but they only ended up having to treat 20 people there so they left.

    6. uli dell

build more such ships and stop buying the F35s !

      1. J ui

        We need the f 35s

    7. Lauren Conrad

So we have these giant hospital ships that could help people in third world countries or could send a message to other countries but we still don’t have universal healthcare? Something’s off... 🤔

America bragging about its health system worldwide: [Laughs in NHS]

    9. MIGHTY GODJIHYO

Quick Question: Why aren't they helping to house US Covid patients?

      1. Zack Georgly

They are (or at least one is). I guess that's why this video was made.

    10. Rajiv Casie Chitty

never knew my country had *small* hospital ships, i mean i see why, most small islands dont have hospitals, so, its useful

    13. Sergiu M.

The Mexican Navy also has the hospital ship Zapoteco that is often deployed with humanitarian aid purposes to places in need, though it also acts as a cadet training ship

    14. GriffindorPh Wizard

USS MERCY arrived in the Philippines after Haiyan Typhoon arrived and thousand people benifit from its health care. Thank you america. This ship is more equipt than our local hospital.

    15. Really Next

Hard to digest with this audio speed editing. 1x is too fast, 0.75 is too slow. Thanks

8:52 when this goes out of service, this will be a big haunted story ship !

    17. j h

wondering if we could send these 2 ships to between Japan/south Korea or the other to Europe?

    18. Bum Face

US; brings massive hospital ship around world to help give healthcare to those who don’t have it Also US; doesn’t give citizens healthcare to those who don’t have it

    19. Stjepan Nikolić

      km/h

    20. Celino Diaz

What about converting the S.S. United States into a hospital ship? it wouldn't have the bulkhead issue and it would be a faster ship

    21. SMILEMAN

4am supposed to be doing school work but no this first

    22. 1234kalmar

Leave it to the US to make even hospital ships about dick waving...

    23. Katgirldiamond

Welp we all know they're probably gonna make a better one after this pandemic

      1. Zack Georgly

Nah, you can get 1/100 of a destroyer with that money!

    24. Mochi dog1

This is actually Sweden’s navy invading the U.S

    25. CaNCeRNamE

And yet... countless hospital ships or the best medicine is worthless if you have the biggest moron of all morons in the highest office of your country....

    26. Miles

in Venice the hospitals have boat ambulances!

    27. Connor Dragonplume

Sounds like Mercy and Comfort needs to be replaced with FUCKING GIANT AIRCRAFT CARRIER HOSPITAL BOATS. You can fly planes and helicopters right there, and they're thicc as fuck.

    28. Shivam Oza

      जय हिंद! जय भरत! इंदीयन नव्य को सलाम! 🇮🇳🇮🇳 God bless the Indian Navy! 🇮🇳 🇮🇳

    29. Brian Holmes

With the retirement of the Enterprise class carriers, it would be interesting if it would be possible to a convert a couple those into hospital ships. Large hanger decks, plenty of storage areas, speed, and plenty if room on the flight deck for additional structures, that could be quite the asset. Just a thought though

    30. Nathan Davis

I got scared when he said 1000 people

Lol, whytf don't they just cut a fuckin hole in the bulkheads to make hallways?

    34. Xeno Phon

They dont, they are used by the USA to deploy special forces illegally into other nations. Just ask Venezuela.

    35. Jeremy Tibbals

Lol, they dont, because nobody ended up needing them due to this shit being over hyped.

      1. DeathTrooper 67

lol it isn't over hyped. It's just started bud. The amount of infected, and dead are way off.

Shows off "the capabilities of US's *military* heath system". Yeah. Military. Because showcasing the public health systems wouldn't be worth anything :D

      1. TheReal Lifehacks

@afutla qian Considering that the US spends huge amounts of money per year on getting low income individuals healthcare Most people really don't want to see the bill if the government tried it for everyone

      2. afutla qian

How nice that the USA can deploy a state worth of medical equipment all over the world, but is not capable of providing basic health care to its own citizens

    42. Jose Rodriguez

What world map does wendover use?

      1. afutla qian

Saw the video title, shorted some airline stocks. This clearly means aviation is doomed right?

    43. Wh0_Am_ 1

Basically what Wendover is trying to say is that in past 50/60 years while there have been a few times when the hospital ships have proven useful, there has never been a time when they from a national defense perspective they have proven crucial. On the other hand there is still the possibility for a multitude of scenarios in which a hospital ship could prove critical for say a future conflict such as for the US, a possible war with China, it's just that the chances of battlefield conditions being opportune enough for the hospital ship not to be immediately destroyed by a power that may choose to abide by the Geneva conventions (which are the kind that the US generally chooses to fight) are few enough not to warrant acquisition of newer more advanced ships, but at the same time significant enough to maintain and purchase relatively cheap oil tankers and fit them to with the proper equipment.

      1. eioshen boboi

Wow what made Wendover to bring Sri Lanka into the video? that was sweet though

    50. Mr.R SCNL

If only the US had it’s own minesweepers they would truly be a capable fighting force

    51. iuhimon

You think an older aircraft carrier being remodeled into a hospital ship be a good idea? They are already large in size and they have massive hangers which could be ideal to be used as hospital rooms. But hey if it is possible it might be an idea for them to be reused.

      1. TheReal Lifehacks

Aircraft carriers aren't really meant to be reused after service They need nuclear technician's which aren't a dime a dozen, the reactors need to be maintained, weapon systems stripped, classified equipment removed And when a nuclear carrier needs to be refueled they have to cut open the ship and it spends almost an entire year doing so

    52. Stewie Griffin

Do a depth video for US healthcare system.

    53. steve1978ger

The speed of a ship is expressed in knots, here: 17 kts. Transverse bulkheads are not so much against sloshing, that's more in the domain of longitudinal bulkheads or baffles. Any capsizing due to free surfaces usually happens along the longitudinal axis.

Though there are areas of separation thia could be resolved by having critical areas on the upper decks and thus can more efficiently transport patients.

    64. Alex M

Well hospitals can be better at the end some hospitals don't even treat patients right

    65. Trivan Annakkarage

Buy two or three new but 'roughed out' freight hulls from wherever they are cheapest. Have US shipyards offer bids on completing said hulls as planned hospitals ships, i.e. idealised patient flow; modular sections for easy mission reconfiguration, flight decks for air ambulances etc. Put them through a year of sea trials, problem solved. 200 million buys you a lot of hospital.

When the navy retires them and if they make another ship, they should convert a container ship as the hupe cargo holds would be easy to design a hospital more efficiently. Though there are areas of separation thia could be resolved by having critical areas on the upper decks and thus can more efficiently transport patients.
